Community members have released a statement about looking after your children. Yesterday in Heideveld, seven children were hijacked. They were all primary school children. The driver that usually transports the children was held at gunpoint by the hijackers, and they drove away with the kidnapped children.

According to our sources, when the school transport dropped the children off at their homes, the hijackers were waiting for them. They jumped into the vehicle, and the driver of the school children was held at gunpoint. Luckily, two of the children jumped out of the vehicle,, and they drove away with the other children.

Two of the children were found at a Gugulethu graveyard. They were dumped there and thrown out of the vehicle. The driver of the schoolchildren was thrown out of the vehicle in Heideveld by the shops, but they first hit her in the face. Three of the children were dumped in Philippi and the other two were dumped in Khayelitsha graveyard.

Community members were at the police station, and all seven children were found safe and secure. There was a full on search for the driver and the children.

There is a huge notice going out to all parents and children to please be vigilant. When dropping children off at home make sure that you are not being followed and that the children enter their homes safely.

 

On Thursday, the Department of Home Affairs detained Success Egabor for being illegal in the country. She is also the third woman believed to be a member of a human trafficking syndicate.

Following an assault complaint, another arrest was made on Saturday by the Hawks. The Hawks were observing a well-known brothel in George. Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, says that they established that the victim was being held against her will by the suspect. The Hawks immediately went after the suspect and arrested her; the investigation continues.

The victim was taken to George Hospital for medical examination and thereafter taken to a place of safety. Vukubi says that Egabor appeared in George Magistrates' Court on Friday, and the matter was postponed to June 10 as she will now join her co-accused, Nontobeko Mathunjwa, 35, and Precious Abudu, 34. 

Sergeant Nkosinathi Wellem from the Philippi East station was attacked on Sunday night at about 9pm. Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut says that the 44-year-old victim was off-duty at the time of his murder. The Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, said their detectives are investigating.

He says that they just received the investigation, and it's still new. There is nothing to share at this stage; the team is still assessing. In less than two months, Delft has lost two officers. A Delft officer was shot dead and three others wounded at the corner of Sapela Road and Sandalwood Street in N2 Gateway during a hijacking in April.
