The Ruyterwacht Action Committee and Lavis residents have laid charges against Communicare's evictions and the sale of various community structures. The matter was placed on the Urgent Court Roll on May 14, 2024. Judge Daniel Thulare of the Western Cape High Court granted a Stay of Execution Order/Interim Interdict in this matter. The return date in the High Court is June 10.

The Al Jama-ah party says that winning the first-round battle will save the Zerelda Steyn Hall in Ruyterwacht from being auctioned off, and they say that they recognize a systematic plan to sell off the community assets in chunks to large corporations, displacing hundreds of vulnerable members from the community and alienating those remaining from important amenities.

This is when Communicare NPC will be given a chance to respond. The ANC Dullah Omar Region has taken a stand against the unjust eviction practices carried out by Communicare. They are very concerned about the targeting of vulnerable elderly people and individuals living with disabilities.

At the moment, the following has been established:

1. A comprehensive forensic investigation into the activities of Communicare will be conducted.

2. All evictions will be immediately suspended until the completion of the forensic investigation.

3. Urgent efforts will be made to secure alternative accommodation for the elderly and individuals living with disabilities who have fallen victim to Communicare's eviction practices.

The Elsies River Community Advice Office partnered with NGO REEP and collaborated to have a very informative voter education session this week. The Elsies River Community Advice Office provides free legal and general advice to members on a one-on-one basis at the monthly meetings. The Kagiso Trust was also in attendance.

The Trust's social vision has broadened through the establishment of Kagiso Trust Investments, and for the next decade, it will focus on uplifting South African communities through targeted education and enterprise development programmes. In 2005, they secured their financial stability through a series of strategic investments and partnerships that strengthened and expanded their capacity to develop people and communities.

A fishing trip has left one man dead and one man missing. The National Sea Rescue Institute spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, says the SAPS Water Policing and Diving Services (WPDS) SAPS of Table View are continuing the search for 23-year-old Pierre Lotte and his three dogs along the Bloubergstrand shoreline.

Lambinon says that the missing man is last known to have been wearing a cream-coloured shirt. The missing man can also be identified by tattoos on his inner arm. The two men, ages 47 and 23, from Kathu in the Northern Cape had been fishing at Kid's Rock, off-shore of Bloubergstrand. Anyone with information can call Tableview SAPS at 021 521 3338.
