A policeman has been found guilty of raping a 14-year-old girl on December 13, 2019 at around 8pm. He has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment. Captain Andre Bekkies is from the SAPS’s Protection and Security Services.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate IPID spokesperson Phaladi Shuping says that Bekkies was found guilty of rape and three counts of sexual assault in the Parow Magistrates' Court. According to IPID he is receiving three years for the first count of sexual assault and five years each for the other two counts of sexual assault.

Another Western Cape policeman is also facing rape charges. IPID said the police officer is alleged to have raped a woman in the police station holding cells. 

 

Eskom will be in Elsies River on the 18 and 19 April, Thursday and Friday respectively, at the Elsies River Civic Centre in Halt Road from 9 am until 2 pm.

They will be here to assist Eskom customers with recoding of prepaid meters. Eskom’s Senior Manager for Customer Services, Portia Papu says that it is critical that people know that the recoding of meters is done at no cost to the customers. This is a DIY process,

Eskom employees will continue to only assist customers that have logged queries and received proper reference numbers. It is important for customers to take note that should they not recode their meter, the meter will become inactive after 24 November 2024. 

The Steenberg community is on edge after five people were killed in the latest wave of alleged gang violence. Five people including two teenagers were killed in a shooting in the Muizenberg precinct. The neighbouring Steenberg CPF has issued an alert saying that the escalating violence has deeply impacted their neighbourhoods, and it is imperative that they stand together to address this urgent issue.

It is incumbent upon each and every individual to report anything suspicious and come forward with any information that could assist in bringing those responsible to justice.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie says that provincial detectives are probing the circumstances surrounding the death of three people, two males aged 15 and 18 and a 25-year-old woman, whose bodies were found in the early hours of Saturday in Drakensberg Road, Hillview, Muizenberg.
