The residents of the Western Cape have to be cautious as there are many scammers in the housing opportunities sector. The City of Cape Town says that it would never ask residents to pay for a government-subsidised housing opportunity and urged all residents to report suspicious or illegal activity to the police. Mayoral committee member for Human Settlements Councillor Carl Pophaim says that his directorate was recently made aware of a scam involving the Maroela housing project in Kraaifontein.
The red flags are:
- If you are asked to pay a registration fee
- If the opportunity is advertised as an RDP house
- If you are asked to pay for a subsidised housing opportunity
- If a BNG house has been built within the last eight years
- If the communication does not have a City of Cape Town letterhead

The Western Cape is experiencing widespread outages of electricity due to disadvantageous weather. The provinces Disaster Management Centre is doing their best work to restore the Central Karoo, Garden Route, and Overberg’s electricity. Gift of the Givers Foundation has sent support to the Klein Karoo for urgent assistance to various clinics, hospitals, old age homes, and schools in the area. Spokesperson for the organisation Ali Sablay says Laingsburg, Prince Albert, Leeu Gamka and Merwewille were the hardest hit towns. Gift of the Givers has received requests from the Western Cape Disaster Management teams, municipalities, and health facilities for urgent assistance with water as most of the towns' boreholes are washed and unable to function due to the towns not having electricity. Western Cape MEC for Local Government, Environmental Affairs, and Development Planning, Anton Bredell says that the areas have been without electricity since Saturday.
For those who take private taxis, Bolt has announced a new app feature named ‘driver compliments’. This will allow positive driver feedback. Bolt says the feature will strengthen the feedback loop by allowing drivers to see the positive feedback provided by riders, resulting in increased driving performance and a better riding experience. PR manager at Bolt Africa Sandra Buyole says that this is also a good opportunity for riders to thank and recognise drivers for the things they do to make the experience more memorable and fun, which may not be enough through a five-star rating while you could just tell your driver at the end of the ride what a great trip you had. He adds that it will encourage driver-partners to do even better, and that is why the feature has a built-in profanity filter that does not let abusive comments appear in the driver’s app
Palestine's national soccer will be playing local teams at the Athlone stadium on the 11 and 18 February. Cape Town's Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says that City supports the SA Football Association’s (Safa) Football 4 Humanity event and we should all show support for peace and justice in Palestine by attending this month's exhibition soccer matches.
Speaking to Inspire Elsies Radio the SAFA National Deputy President Bennet Bailey says that we must never see sport as in isolation with what is happening in society. Sport is a microcosm of society. You should never isolate yourself from daily happenings in society. We are creating a better life for our young people.
