Inspiring Talks with Ilhaam Global Noise Awareness Day 2026
Inspiring Talks with Ilhaam spoke to Erica Du Toit about Global Noise Awareness Day 2026
International Noise Awareness Day (INAD) is a global campaign aimed at raising awareness of the harmful effects of noise on hearing, health, and quality of life. It was founded in 1996 by the Center for Hearing and Communication (CHC) and is commemorated on the last Wednesday of April each year. The day encourages individuals and communities to reflect on their daily exposure to noise and to adopt protective habits.
Activities include open days on hearing from acousticians, lectures in public health departments, universities, and schools, and panels of experts. The theme for 2025 is "Protect Your Hearing, Protect Your Health," highlighting the importance of understanding what noise is and how to avoid it to protect hearing.

The National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD), is a leading non-profit organisation committed to shaping South Africa into a country where persons with disabilities have rights and equitable opportunities. Since its establishment in 1939, NCPD has been at the forefront of South Africa’s disability rights movement, running awareness programs, influencing government policies, promoting accessibility, and facilitating economic participation for and with persons with disabilities.
The NCPD plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between national policy and the lived experiences of persons with disabilities. Today, according to WHO and ILO data, approximately 17% of South Africa’s population are persons with disabilities. Through collaboration and advocacy, the NCPD continues to influence legislation, policies, and practices.
