Anxiety is like your brain's fire alarm going off when there's no fire. It's a natural response to stress, but sometimes it can get stuck on "panic mode". Symptoms include racing thoughts, sweaty palms, rapid heartbeat, and feeling like you can't breathe.
Managing anxiety is all about finding what works for you, but here are some strategies:
- Breathe: Try the 4-7-8 rule - breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 7, out for 8
- Move: Exercise, dance, walk - get those endorphins going!
- Ground yourself: Focus on your five senses - what's around you?
- Challenge thoughts: Are they true? Exaggerated?
- Connect: Talk to someone, join a group, or chat online
