Ingesprek met Abidah - Sheikh Zaid Fataar
Sheikh Zaid Fataar, from Dar at-Tawhid Institute of South Africa, joins the show to discuss how you should behave in Ramadaan. Core Practices - Fasting (Sawm): From dawn to sunset, Muslims abstain from food, drink, smoking, and sexual relations. This is a compulsory act of worship during Ramadan. Prayer and Worship: Increased devotion through daily prayers, recitation of the Qur’an, and special nightly prayers called Tarawih. Charity (Zakat and Sadaqah): Giving to those in need is highly emphasized, reinforcing compassion and social responsibility. Self-Discipline: Muslims are encouraged to avoid sinful behavior such as lying, gossiping, anger, or indulgence, focusing instead on patience and humility. Spiritual Goals - Reflection and Renewal: Ramadan is seen as a spiritual reset, helping believers reconnect with God, refine their character, and strengthen community bonds. Obedience and Self-Control: Fasting is not just about abstaining from food but about cultivating obedience, self-restraint, and mindfulness. Social and Cultural Dimensions = Community: Breaking the fast (Iftar) at sunset often involves family and community gatherings, reinforcing unity. Celebration: The month concludes with Eid al-Fitr, a festival of joy, gratitude, and charity. In essence, Ramadan is a time of spiritual discipline, generosity, and reflection, where Muslims strive to purify their hearts and strengthen their relationship with God.
