It has been more than 200 days of Israel’s war in the Gaza Strip. According to Al Arabiya, the place has become a graveyard for women and girls, says the global non-governmental agency ActionAid in a statement on Thursday.
Reports show that approximately 70 percent of the more than 34,000 people killed by Israel in the last six and a-half months have been women and children. Riham Jafari, advocacy and communications coordinator at ActionAid Palestine, says that for more than 200 days, people in Gaza have been living a nightmare they can’t wake up from.
Instead of a place they can live and thrive, Gaza has become a graveyard for women and girls, who make up the majority of the staggering death toll.

Build One South Africa’s (Bosa) Nobuntu Hlazo-Webster says that there is an illusion that a large number of women occupy seats in leadership roles, especially in politics. However, the gap is far too wide.
Hlazo-Webster spoke with Newzroom Afrika on Monday and says that a patriarchal system is the core foundation and cause of not having women leaders. She says that it seems like there are women in leadership positions, because of the few we have in different industries. She emphasizes that women are the face of poverty, gender-based violence and continuous marginalization However, most registered voters are women.
The IEC reported that 55.24% of women are registered to vote, compared to 44.76% of men.
