The Elsies River Community Police Forum, in partnership with Elsies River SAPS, wants people to work hand in hand to make the community safer. There is a recruitment drive for community in Blue Patrollers.

The CIB aims to encourage communities to participate in crime prevention. They want to ensure high standards of protocol and action. CPFs also include men and women patrollers who support visible policing, report crime, and strengthen operations.

You can apply on Tuesdays through Warrant Officer Flandorp. They say that you must visit Elsies River SAPS this Tuesday and become part of the solution and stop complaining about the problem.

Elsies River CPF Spokesperson Imraahn Mukaddam talks to Newsroom Afrika about the terrible creation of zip guns on the Cape Flats. He says that they are have a great concern with regards to the amount of firearms on the Cape Flats, and this results in a lot of deaths in their area. The appearance of these zip guns on the Cape Flats will bring chaos. Because it is so easily concealable, our law enforcement wouldn't be looking for that at a crime scene.

He elaborates that this is going to be a really big problem with these zip guns. They are being confiscated, and the neighbourhood watch is assisting with the confiscation.

An update on the Eskom prepaid meters' software upgrade, is that the Key Revision Number (KRN) is finally live. The following areas will be affected:

  1. Elsies River
  2. Uitsig
  3. Bishop Lavis
  4. Cravenby
  5. Matroosfontein and
  6. surrounding suburbs

To upgrade: buy any amount of electricity and punch in the 3 sets of 20-digit numbers on the slip you receive from an Eskom vendor

It is very important to watch the video and check your prepaid electricity slip.

Things to check:

  • Have you received 3 rows of numbers?
  • Do not punch in all at the same time
  • Punch in the first 20 and press enter, then your second 20 numbers, wait a few, seconds then punch in the last 20 numbers

Do not buy electricity at spaza shops until decoding is done, also only buy from Shoprite, Pick n Pay or Checkers.

An electricity box has burnt out in Echo Street, Clarke Estate.

This left all residents receiving power supply from that box without electricity.

This took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

This is not a new thing for Elsies River residents. Please note that you can report this on the Alfred app.

Anti-crime activist and spokesperson for the Elsies River Community Policing Forum’s Imraahn Mukaddam says that he thinks the most striking reality when you look at the enormous amount that’s being spent on VIP protection is the value they place on the lives of the politicians who are supposed to make the citizens lives better.

According to reports on a national level, the Hawks received R2.25-million last year, while VIP protection services received R3.76-million. Meanwhile the City of Johannesburg had adjusted the VIP spend, from R83-million to R76-million.

He says that what they, do as neighborhood watch members, are asking for is a drop in the ocean in comparison to the billions spent on VIP protection. A bulletproof vest or a burial fund for neighbourhood watch members would be beneficial when venturing out on dangerous streets.
