Althea Adams, who lost her life at the hands of the South African Police Service on Sunday evening, mother Sandra says that it wasn’t a gang fight or anything, they had no reason to shoot because there was no violence against them.

She says that the one who shot at the children must pay for what he has done and justice must prevail. Independent Police Investigative Directorate spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping says that rubber bullets were used by the cops. Shuping says that it is alleged that the police searched a premises and found drugs and ammunition.

They arrested a suspect but a group of community members allegedly attacked the police, who threw a stun grenade and fired rubber bullets in an attempt to disperse the crowd. Four people were injured and taken to hospital. One person, aged 16, unfortunately passed away. The incident was reported to Ipid and investigators have started with the investigations.

After the release of the alleged sangoma, resident Lourencia ‘Renz’ Lombaard has been taken into custody. Renz made an appearance in the Vredenburg Magistrate’s Court where she has been charged with human trafficking and kidnapping. Lombaard requested legal aid and a translator. She will been seen again on the 25 March for bail information until then and she will remain in custody

The U-Turn Homeless Ministries are training homeless people to become baristas. This opportunity gives them a different choice for a good life. They are being trained by the NGO Red Band Barista Academy. The U-turn placement officer Carmen Dickinson says that U-turn is all about empowering people to take over their problems and walking alongside them to offer support as they recover from homelessness.

She says that this training will be significant for their Champions and will be the catalyst to helping their champs find employment and graduate from the programme.
